The Snow Beast Philosophy

We believe people should be able to stay active, train, and live their lives without constantly worrying about pain or getting sidelined.

Jess Stuart

Client Operations Coordinator

MEET JESS

Jess is the first voice many clients hear when they reach out to Snow Beast. She manages scheduling, communication, and patient coordination, helping set the tone for the welcoming experience patients can expect throughout their care. From the first conversation through ongoing care, she helps guide patients through the process and makes sure every question is answered.

Originally from the heart of Vermont, Jess spent her childhood running barefoot through the pasture, surrounded by animals - but it was always the horses that truly captured her heart. That lifelong passion has carried through the years and now lives on in the form of a 4-day horse show she proudly organizes in Addison, Vermont, as part of the local fair, a tradition she’s nurtured since 2011.

These days, Jess lives in Essex with her husband and their two high-energy boys, who seem determined to try every sport that involves a ball. When they’re not chasing balls, they’re racing down mountains on bikes, carving turns on skis, testing out their new snowboarding skills, or making a splash in the water. Jess’s favorite place? Right on the sidelines, cheering her two sons and occasionally her husband on with a heart full of pride, a slightly elevated blood pressure, and a few more gray hairs with each event.

Dr. Alex Denny

Physical Therapist

MEET ALEX

Dr. Alex Denny specializes in helping active people return to the outdoor activities that matter most to them.

With a background in strength and conditioning and orthopedic physical therapy, Alex focuses on bridging the gap between rehabilitation and performance. His goal is not only to help people get out of pain, but to help them rebuild strength, confidence, and resilience so they can return to high-level activity and manage their bodies long-term.

Alex works especially well with motivated individuals who want to understand their bodies and take an active role in their recovery. Many of his clients are balancing work, family, and limited time while still trying to stay strong enough for ski days, bike rides, and time on Vermont’s trails.

Alex played lacrosse at Castleton University and later coached elite snowsport athletes at Killington Mountain School. He holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT), is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and certified in Integrative Dry Needling.

As an avid skier, mountain biker, hiker, and CrossFit coach, Alex is dedicated to keeping the athletic and outdoor sports community active and healthy.

Dr. Stephen Burkert

Owner, Physical Therapist

MEET STEPHEN

Dr. Stephen Burkert founded Snow Beast Performance to create a different kind of physical therapy experience; one built around time, attention, and real outcomes for active people.

Steve works with individuals who want to take care of their bodies for the long term so they can continue showing up for the people and activities that matter most, from work and family life, to long days outside in Vermont’s mountains and woods. His approach focuses on restoring balance in the body, improving movement quality, and helping people build the knowledge and habits that keep them healthy long after therapy ends.

Steve holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) and is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and certified in Integrative Dry Needling.

Steve believes that fresh air, sunshine, and movement are essential parts of healthy living, and he’s motivated to help people return to the outdoor activities that make Vermont life so meaningful.
